Year 2
Welcome to Year 2 at Barry Primary and Nursery School – a year of discovery, creativity and confidence-building!
Throughout the year, children explore exciting cross-curricular topics that inspire curiosity and deepen understanding. We begin with a visit to Abington Park to collect natural materials, using them in art and creative writing. In geography, we learn about the UK and capital cities, supported by Paddington’s adventures in London.
As the year unfolds, we travel through space, meet famous explorers in history and design our own moving monsters in DT. After Christmas, we journey to Australia, write letters and get creative using a wide range of materials and techniques inspired by famous artists.
We also explore the Great Fire of London and compare it to the Great Fire of Northampton, linking local history to national events. In Summer, we become architects, designing our own buildings, before stepping back in time on our trip to Warwick Castle. From healthy eating projects to story writing, reasoning in maths and fun outdoor learning, Year 2 is a lively and exciting chapter of your child’s journey.
