Governing Body
School governors are a group of people with a variety of skills and interests who volunteer to work with the school to ensure that every child enjoys their learning and has the best possible education whilst they are at Barry Primary & Nursery School.
Our school governors bring their personal experience and expertise into the world of education and provide the appropriate mix of challenge and support to the Headteacher and wider team.
One of the ways they do this is by setting the strategic direction, policies and objectives of the school and then monitoring progress against these. This can be a challenge as the school grows in numbers of pupils; the diversity of pupils increases; the school building programme continues; and new ways of measuring pupil progress are introduced by the Government.
One of the key requirements of our Governing Body is to agree the school’s annual budget and regularly monitor the management of spending against this. Reports are presented on specific areas of spending, with special attention given to spending linked to targeted Government funding. Additional resources such as the provision of teaching assistants or one-to-one support are then allocated as necessary.
