Pupil Premium
The Pupil Premium funding is money allocated to schools for children who are eligible for Targeted Free School Meals (FSM). Funding is also provided via the Pupil Premium for children of our Servicemen and women and for children who have, during their time in our school been eligible for Free School Meals (Ever 6).
Schools are free to choose how to spend the Pupil Premium funding for these children, but it is provided to help the children meet their full potential and to ensure that they have the same school experiences as non-Pupil Premium children. Many of our children have made faster progress because of the pupil premium funding. Please click on the link below to view details of how the money was spent in the previous two years.

Free School Meals
There are two types of free school meal entitlement:
Targeted Free School meals are for children in households receiving Universal Credit with net annual earnings of £7,400 or less
If your child qualifies for Targeted Free School Meals. They will:
- receive free school meals
- enable their school to receive additional funding through the Pupil Premium Grant
Expanded Free School meals are for children in households receiving Universal Credit whose annual net earnings exceed the standard £7,400 threshold. The expanded entitlement does not generate Pupil Premium funding for their school.
We encourage all parents and carers receiving qualifying benefits to complete the online form so that we can identify whether children are eligible for Targeted or Expanded Free School meals and ensure the school receives all available funding.
Applying is really easy
You can register online at https://www.westnorthants.gov.uk/help-cost-going-school/free-school-meals-and-pupil-premium. This is the easiest and quickest option.
If this is not possible, please contact the School Office on 01604 234574, or email schooloffice@barryprimary.org to request a form to be sent home with your child. Once the form is completed, send it back into school in an envelope, addressed to ‘The School Office’ and we will process it for you.
Reception, Year 1 and Year 2
All the children in the above year groups automatically receive free school meals through the Universal Infant Free School Meals scheme without the need to make an application.
However if you receive on of the qualifying benefits listed below, we still encourage you to complete the online form so we can determine whether your child qualifies for Targeted Free School Meals and whether the school can receive Pupil Premium funding.
Year 3 to Year 6
Please complete the online form to check whether your child is eligible for Targeted or Expanded Free School Meals.
If eligible, your child will receive free school meals. Children eligible for Targeted Free School Meals will also generate Pupil Premium funding.
An application has to be made separately for each child.
You may be eligible for Free School Meals (FSM), and therefore Pupil Premium funding, if you are in receipt of one of the following benefits:
- Universal Credit
- Support under Part 6 of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
Households may also be entitled to a meal if they:
- are in receipt of income-related Employment and Support Allowance
- receive the guarantee element of Pension Credit
- meet criteria set out in separate guidance for families with no recourse to public funds
Please register if you are eligible; it can really make a difference and here at Barry Primary and Nursery School we only want to help and support our families. It is definitely worth a check.

If you think you may be eligible for Pupil Premium Funding, please speak to a member of staff as soon as possible. Please note that your child does not have to have school hot lunches and can still bring a packed lunch to school even if they are receiving Pupil Premium Funding, but they could be eligible for much of the additional other support provided.
