If you have received confirmation that your child has a place at Barry Primary and Nursery School from September 2026, welcome to Reception - a joyful year of exploration, early learning and belonging!
Over the next few weeks, important dates and information will be emailed to you. Please keep an eye out for this. We will use the email registered with West Northants school admissions. Please contact us if you have not received anything by the end of April.
In the meantime, the booklet below contains lots of information to help your child get prepared and ready to start school.
Starting Reception 2026 - School Readiness Booklet
In Reception, we build on the fantastic foundations laid in Nursery and other early years settings, welcoming every child into our Barry Primary family with care, excitement and support.
Our Reception classes are based in the main school building and are led by our dedicated and experienced team. We offer a child-led approach shaped by the interests and needs of each pupil, encouraging independence, creativity and a love of learning. Our calm, nature-inspired environment includes two indoor classrooms, a small nook for quiet learning and a dedicated outdoor space – as well as access to the main school playground, which we use in all weathers!
We introduce phonics through the Little Wandle programme, laying the foundations for confident reading and writing. To support individualised learning, our 60-place setting is thoughtfully organised into three smaller teaching groups of 20, ensuring each child receives plenty of focused attention throughout the day.
Reception is full of curiosity, discovery and growth, from hands-on play and outdoor adventures to storytelling, number work and creative expression.
