Year 5

Welcome to Year 5 at Barry Primary and Nursery School – a year of exploration, growth and new challenges!

Based in the Annexe, Year 5 is an exciting step as we build on prior learning and take on new responsibilities as upper key stage 2 role models. Our engaging curriculum spans literature, science, history and creative arts, encouraging pupils to think deeply and discover new passions.

We dive into gripping texts that inspire thoughtful writing, and develop our problem-solving skills in maths. A highlight of the year is our educational visit to the Black Country Living Museum, which brings Victorian life to vivid reality. In science, we investigate forces and space, while our STEM days offer hands-on innovation and teamwork.

Children enjoy special privileges, including lunchtime access to the sports centre and swimming lessons. With school sports fixtures, creative projects and cross-curricular experiences, Year 5 is a dynamic and inspiring year where children grow in confidence and curiosity.
