Reception Admissions

In Northamptonshire, children are eligible to start school (in reception year) in the September following their 4th birthday.  The process is managed by West Northamptonshire Council please click on the link to find out more.

If your child is due to start school in September 2026, Barry Primary have a number of school tours available for booking via Eventbrite. This is an opportunity for you to see the school in action! Please your preferred option on the Reception 2026 page of our website.

The deadline for applications this year is Friday 15th January 2026. Applications can be made online via West Northamptonshire Council.

On National Offer Day (normally mid April) you will be notifed by email of your child's allocated school place.

The admission limit each year is 60 places, in recent years this have proved a fairly accurate measure of places requested.

The following criteria for admission are applied:

  • children with siblings currently in school
  • children who live in the local area

Over-subscription Criteria

Places will be allocated to pupils who have an EHC plan that names the school as appropriate provision. When there are more applications for places than there are places available, priority will be given in the following order:

  • Children in public care or previously looked after children - children who were looked after, but ceased to be so because they were adopted (or became subject to a child arrangments order or special guardianship order).
  • Pupils with a brother or sister continuing at the school at the time of admission of the child.
  • Pupils who live closer to the preferred school than any other school.
  • Other pupils.  Tiebreaker If the admission number is exceeded within any criterion priority will be given to those who live closest to the school.

Mid-Year Applications

School places are allocated by West Northamptonshire Council.  They also maintain any waiting list.  We are unable to offer school places direct to parents for their children.
