Year 6

Welcome to Year 6 at Barry Primary and Nursery School – a year of leadership, challenge and exciting opportunities!

As the final stage of primary school, Year 6 is a time for pupils to build independence, confidence and resilience in preparation for the transition to secondary school. Our classrooms, based in the Annexe, offer a focused and supportive environment where children thrive.

Our rich curriculum brings learning to life through exciting topics and hands-on experiences – including a visit to Holdenby House and a residential adventure that fosters teamwork and self-belief. In history, we explore World War II, while in science and DT, we investigate forces, electricity, and creative engineering challenges. In English and Maths, we work hard to deepen understanding and secure progress ahead of the SATs in the summer term.

Year 6 pupils enjoy extra responsibilities and privileges, such as swimming lessons, lunchtime use of the sports centre, and making links with children from other schools. It’s a year filled with celebration, reflection and growth – the perfect launchpad into the next chapter of learning and life.
